Journalism Is Not a Crime

One year ago, on March 29, 2023, the Russian government detained Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and falsely accused him of espionage. He has been wrongfully detained ever since. Imprisoned for being a journalist.

Evan’s detention is an assault on a free press, which is essential to a free and functioning society.

Evan brings curiosity, reportorial integrity, and skill to his work.  He represents the best of his profession.

One year of Evan’s wrongful detention marks one year of his reporting silenced. And one year of depriving an innocent man of his liberty is a grievous human rights violation.
